Fractional Laser is an innovative approach to treating pigmentation, lines and wrinkles, acne scarring and other scarring. It is a light-based laser treatment that is used to smooth out fine lines in the skin. The technical term that describes the process is ‘fractional technology’. It involves making tiny injuries to the skin(called ‘imprints’). These are very minute in size, being about one-tenth of the diameter of a hair shaft. The laser produces thousands of microscopic treatment zones (MTZ’s) that penetrate deep into the dermis. The skin surrounding the pinpoint MTZ’s remains intact and unaffected.
A thin layer of anaesthetic gel is applied to the skin and left for about an hour. Before your treatment, the doctor will remove the gel, clean the skin and apply eye protection. The laser is then passed over the skin surface. Fractional Laser usually takes 20 - 45 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. Most people find this treatment very tolerable, with minimal down time.
Fractional laser is an innovative treatment for pigmentation and rejuvenation. Fractional treatments can reduce unwanted pigmentation (brown spots, ageing spots and other areas of hyperpigmentation) as well as minimise other skin imperfections.
The number of sessions depends on the size and area of the scar to be treated.
